Your friend should eat these alone without any additional carbs such as rice because beans have protein and carbs in them.
Legumes can be tough to digest so it is essential to cook them properly! Invite your friend to this site and I will share some tips based on the vegetarian meal plans we create.

I always suggest consuming them with some avocado and non starch vegetables and she can even mix the beans with some salsa or hummus.
When people combine beans and rice, the total glycemic load of the food goes up drastically making it VERY hard to achieve and optimize weight loss.

For our clients that are on A+A plans, we do not recommend beans or legumes in general because they are tough to digest (many people do not have the capability to properly digest therefore missing the nutrients)
They also need to be cooked thoroughly and in the proper way which very few people do and lastly, most people combine beans and rice which again, can greatly inhibit weight loss goals.
