Earlier this month, A+A Wellness had the opportunity to participate in an event that perfectly reflects our philosophy of looking beyond symptoms and understanding the deeper story behind health challenges.
On June 6, Alex presented at the annual Georgia State Clinic hosted by the National Strength and Conditioning Association at Kennesaw State University.
The conference brought together more than 120 professionals, including physical therapists, strength and conditioning coaches, exercise science graduates, educators, researchers, and health professionals from across Georgia.
While the presentation focused on sports performance and injury prevention, the lessons shared have important applications for anyone interested in improving their health and wellness.

Problems Often Begin Long Before Symptoms Appear
Alex’s presentation, “Fueling Tissue Resilience: Nutrition and Supplement Strategies for Soft Tissue Injury Prevention and Recovery,” focused on an important concept that extends far beyond athletics.
Many non-traumatic tendon and soft tissue injuries don’t suddenly appear overnight.
Instead, tissues often become compromised gradually over time before pain, weakness, or dysfunction becomes noticeable.
The same principle applies to many common health concerns.
Think about symptoms such as:
- Chronic fatigue
- Digestive discomfort
- Inflammation
- Brain fog
- Blood sugar imbalances
- Hormonal changes
- Low energy
In many cases, these issues develop quietly beneath the surface long before they become significant enough to disrupt daily life.
By the time symptoms appear, the body may have been sending subtle signals for months—or even years.
Listening to Early Warning Signs Matters
One of the most valuable lessons we can learn from both sports medicine and functional wellness is that prevention is often more effective than reaction.
The body frequently provides clues that something needs attention:
- Afternoon energy crashes
- Digestive changes
- Sleep disturbances
- Increased cravings
- Slower recovery
- Mood changes
- Persistent inflammation
These signs are easy to dismiss when life gets busy.
However, paying attention to these smaller signals can often help prevent larger challenges down the road.
At A+A Wellness, we encourage clients to view symptoms as information rather than inconveniences.
The question isn’t simply:
“How do I get rid of this symptom?”
It’s often:
“What is this symptom trying to tell me?”
Why We Believe in Looking Deeper
This philosophy is one of the reasons we are passionate about functional wellness.
Rather than focusing solely on symptom management, we aim to understand the underlying patterns influencing health.
Through personalized consultations, nutritional guidance, functional testing, and targeted wellness strategies, we help clients gain a clearer picture of what may be contributing to their symptoms.
These patterns often involve:
- Digestive health
- Inflammation
- Nutrient status
- Blood sugar regulation
- Recovery capacity
- Stress resilience
- Lifestyle factors
When those pieces begin connecting together, it becomes easier to create a realistic and personalized plan for lasting wellness.
Learning From Other Health Professionals
One of the most valuable aspects of the NSCA conference was the opportunity to connect with professionals from a variety of disciplines.
The event brought together experts working in:
- Physical therapy
- Strength and conditioning
- Exercise science
- Sports performance
- Health education
- Research
These conversations matter because healthcare and wellness continue to evolve.
New research, emerging best practices, and interdisciplinary collaboration help ensure that practitioners stay informed and continue improving the care they provide.
Every conference creates an opportunity to learn something new.
And that knowledge doesn’t stay in the lecture hall.
It comes back to the clients we serve every day.
Leadership Beyond the Clinic
Many people may not know that Alex also serves on the Georgia State Board of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
This role allows him to collaborate with health and performance professionals throughout the state, support continuing education efforts, and remain actively involved in advancing professional standards within the industry.
For A+A Wellness clients, this means continued exposure to current research, evolving best practices, and meaningful professional collaboration that supports better outcomes.
A+A Wellness Tip of the Week
Don’t wait until symptoms become overwhelming before paying attention to your health.
The body often provides subtle clues long before larger issues develop.
The earlier those signals are recognized and addressed, the easier it can be to create positive changes that support long-term wellness.
